Description:

A pre-touchscreen video poker game by Merit Industries.

Technical:

Pit Boss PCB
Information on this game is difficult to find. The game is very compact and everything is crammed into a very small space. The game is designed so that the only way to access the monitor for repairs is to remove the top plate with the monitor still attached. It does lift out fairly easy but lining it up to reinstall it is difficult because all of the connections have to be hooked up while the monitor is being held above the rest of the cabinet upside down. The control panel seems to have been cut for a different size button than I have on my game because they do not fit properly.

About My Game:

Pit Boss Cabinet
I purchased this game as a two for one deal at a antique store in Oklahoma City. The game was decent condition but needs a good cleaning. The monitor is a 10" with a Hantarex MTC-9000 chassis. It was recapped cap kit over winter break. It is a really small cabinet and I am going to have to take the whole thing apart just to work on the monitor. I am not sure if I will leave this as a Pit Boss or convert it into an 8-liner cabinet, it will depend on if I can revive the monitor and if the Pit Boss board comes to life. The board did not do anything last time I powered it up but with the screen out there really was not much to go on.

Repair Log:

10-08-06
Game tested and not working. Monitor displayed a white trapezoidal screen.
12-16-06
Disassembled the cabinet and did extensive cleaning on all components of the game. Recapped the Hanatrex 9000 10’ monitor with a cap kit from therealBobRoberts.net and repainted the control panel gloss black after repairing some rust damage around the buttons. I reassembled game and tested it again. Monitor problem remained but rather than the original trapezoidal shape it now has an interesting hourglass shape. It looks like the convergence may be off and likely has some other unknown problems. The board status unknown as I was greeted with a white screen again, no other voltage tests were completed.
