Description:

ESWAT: Cyber Police is a side scrolling shoot-um-up/fighter arcade game that was developed by Sega in 1989. It is also referred to as Cyber Police ESWAT (as the name appears on the title screen and the marquee). One or two players set out to destroy the “wicked crime syndicate” in this law enforcement simulator. The players must battle their way through the stages fighting off punks with pistols and shotguns, kids on skateboards, and grenade-throwing mercenaries. The players begin as ordinary police men but upon the successful completion of first three stages of the first round the player is promoted to the ESWAT team and is permitted to wear the I.C.E., a special armored suit. The game consists of five rounds containing three stages each for a total of 15 stages. At the end of each stage is a boss and following the successful arrest of every third boss a special weapon or armor upgrade is given. Bosses include a fire breathing fat man, a tall man with a boomerang, a chain wielding maniac, a demolition expert, and an evil animal trainer whose kong-sized gorilla you must fight off.

Technical:

ESWAT PCB
This game uses the Sega System 16 system and must be plugged into an adaptor board to be played in a JAMMA cabinet. Part of it is visible in the picture to the right. Attached to this adaptor are a volume potentiometer, a test switch, and a service switch. Several games by Sega made at this time can also use the same JAMMA adaptor as well, such as Aurail (1990), Golden Axe (1989), M.V.P. (1989), Passing Shot (1988), Quartet (1987), Riot City (1991), Shinobi (1987), and Tetris (1988). This game uses dip switches and a Free Play setting is available.

About My Game:

ESWAT Cabinet
I received this game in April 2006. The cabinet was built by Grand Products of Elk Grove Village, Illinois and resembles the standard Capcom cabinets of the late 1980s. It seems to be somewhat unique in the fact that it was designed so that the monitor can be mounted horizontally or vertically and can be tilted back about 75 degrees. It is dark blue and has red t-molding with a WG 19K7611 monitor. The ESWAT side art is in good condition but one side is a little faded. The cardboard monitor bezel does not fit perfectly and is also faded around the instruction card. The control panel is faded and stained but might be able to be cleaned up some. The cabinet has a JAMMA harness so the game is hooked up with the System 16 adaptor. The game did not come with the right locks so I have had to replace them. Out of my other cabinets, this is in the best condition.

Repair Log:
02-10-07
Removed Time Killers (to Buster Bros. cabinet) and installed NBA Hangtime. Also moved Double Dragon up to where the Time Killers pcb was.
